A Large & Impressive 17th Century English Boarded Oak Box of rectangular form, fabulous rich colour & patination. The twin plank lid on looped wire hinges, decorated with chip carved bands either side of the engrailed ends and having a run moulded front edge, opening to reveal a candle box with chip carving to the lid. The front and sides elaborately carved with interlaced strap-work & foliage incorporating initials RD and date 1672, fitted with iron hasp & lock-plate on a moulded base, 10” (26 cm) high, 26” (66 cm) wide, 16½” (42 cm) deep.*
