Description
An Impressive 17th Century Boarded Oak Coffer. The single plank lid attached by three original iron split pin hinges, with chip carved ends and run moulding to the front edge, opening to reveal a lidded candle box to one end of the interior. The front board boldly carved with a frieze of interlinked lunettes flanking the iron hasp and lock-plate, above three Tudor roses divided by palmate uprights. The attached plinth board having a pierced serpentine edge and repeat lunette carving conforming to the frieze. The supporting end boards with cut-in ogee arches forming the feet (one foot replaced), 27” (69 cm) high, 48” (122 cm) wide, 18” (46 cm) deep.
