Description
A Fabulous 16th Century Casket of good colour & patination, with a shaped top above two sentinel caryatid figures bearing armorial crests; framing an exquisitely carved panel in relief; depicting Paul and Silas held before the Magistrate accused of teaching ‘customs which are not lawful for us to receive’ (Acts 16). The upper & lower friezes inscribed in Frankrijk which loosely translates ‘be here with us and teach us’, Retaining much of the original polychrome and gilding. Standing high on decoratively carved feet. Limberg, probably Aachen, 9 ins (23 cms) high, 13¼ ins (33½ cms) wide, 7½ ins (19 cms) deep.
