Description
An Attractive 18th Century Marquetry Longcase Clock with eight day movement. The 12” (30.5 cm) ached brass dial having a convex roundel edged in an engraved garland of layered laurel leaves to the arch flanked by scrolling mounts, above a chapter ring engraved with Roman numeral hour counters alternated with fleur-de-lys half hour marks encircled by a ring of Arabic numerals marking the five minute divisions. The matted centre having a subsidiary seconds ring, calendar aperture and two winding holes. The corners adorned with scrolling foliate spandrels incorporating female heads with head dresses. The case having a dome-topped hood, long trunk door with oval bulls-eye pendulum view, and moulded base all elaborately inlaid with urns cascading exuberant scrolls of foliage and birds harbouring amongst the leaves to the facade, 88” (224 cm) in height.
