A 17th Century Flemish Mechelen Painted Wooden Casket (A/F). The twin panel lid centred by a swing handle with iron strap hinges and a lock & key opening to reveal a cerise painted interior with a 1898 banker’s draft pasted inside the lid. The front having two arcaded panels carved and painted to simulate alabaster, flanked by half column pilasters and turned appliqués with further simulated alabaster panels to the sides and rear, on a moulded base, 6¾” (17 cm) high, 12¼” (31 cm) wide, 7½” (19 cm) deep.
