A Fabulous Late 17th/Early 18th Century Decoratively Carved & Painted Friesland Cheese Press used for the production of hard & semi-hard cheeses. The long plank base raised on sledge feet and mounted with a boldly turned baluster post below a square section surmounted by a carved lion sejant to one end, with a pair of posts to the other having square base sections below baluster turnings bridged by an arch pediment carved with cherubs, birds, flowers and foliage (lacking finial). The mould press in-between with a long lever handle, iron fitting and chain for attaching weights, 56” (143 cm) high, 71” (180 cm) in width.
