Description
A Charles II Oak Wainscot Chair. The deep shaped cresting rail carved with voluted S-scrolls curled around pendant sprays of leaves above a central flowering plant and a row of demi-lune flowerheads. The scrolls having coiled terminals forming upswept lobes above shaped spandrels flanking plain uprights and a large panel back. The panel gouge carved with bold trefoil motifs emanating from the corners surrounding a moulded lozenge framing an acorn sprig designed against a pitted ground with punchwork embellishments to the lozenge moulding. The arms resting on knop turned supports leading to a moulded seat on nulled rails and rising baluster legs united by peripheral stretchers, 52” (132 cm) high, 25” (64 cm) wide, 21” (53.5 cm) seat height.
