Description
A Handsome 18th Century Oak Bureau Bookcase. The upper section having a shaped pediment piece surmounted by an urn finial to the centre and flanked by flying scrolls with voluted terminals. The ogee topped fielded panel doors opening to reveal adjustable book shelves sliding into side grooves flanked by ledger compartments either side, below canopied pigeon holes to the top, and small drawer fitted with brass stud handles below. The base section having a sloped fall front enclosing a small central cupboard with arch panel door, flanked by concealed pilaster compartments, pigeon holes incorporating a secret compartment, and banks of stepped side drawers, above three shallow frieze drawers; the outer two pulling out to support the slope, over two short and two long drawers; all with lip moulded edges, brass swing handles on winged back plates and conforming escutcheons. Standing on bracket feet 86” (219 cm) high, 40” (102 cm) wide, 23¼” (59 cm) deep.
