A Good Early Victorian Sampler by Ann Mountain aged nine years A.D. 1839. Finely worked in coloured threads with verse, trees, baskets of flowers & fruit, and a pair of seated dogs within an undulating border of carnations. The scumbled frame having a paper label to the verso inscribed in ink; ‘Ned Cooper – lived at Turnditch – Uncle of Mrs F.G. Forman (née Margeret Cooper) married Anna Maria Kezia Bond. Ann Mountain who worked this sampler was her Mother or Aunt, she lived in London and was supposed to be a descendant of Louis Philippe’. 24” x 21¾” (61 cm x 55 cm).
