A Fabulous & Rare 16th Century French Carved Boxwood Lever Nut Cracker of rich colour and patination. The hinged two-piece lever carved with the head of a bearded man wearing a scrolled head-dress; his mouth opening to receive the nut above a tabard emblazoned with an armorial winged griffin passant. The sides embellished with diaper-work. The handles carved with a dragonesque head issuing pleated drapery. 9” (23 cm) in length. [A very similar example can by found in the V&A collection Accession Number 223-1866]
