Description
A Rare Late 13th/Early 14th Century French Limoges Travelling Pricket Candlestick decorated with champlevé enamel on copper. The hollow conical pricket on a flared hexagonal base emblazoned with heraldic crests alternated with centaurs. The underside with an old Sotheby’s New York label, 11¾” (30 cm) high. [This type of candlestick was made in stacking sets of graduated size; a rare set of six being in The Louvre. Other examples can be found in The Victorian & Albert & The Hermitage Museum].
