A Painted Linen Hunting Flag dated 1700, decorated on both sides in burnt sienna and black dyes: One side emblazoned with a black heraldic lion rampant beneath a crown and initials JRC DHL; the initials & crest of Johann Reinhard Compte de Hanau Lichtenberg (1665-1736), with the date running along the bottom. The other side depicting a Turk’s head wearing a plumed turban, 27” x 16” (69 cm x 41 cm).
