A Large 17th Century Italian Cedar Adige Chest. The planked top with traces of residual penwork decoration to a centre roundel and borders, opening to reveal an elaborately decorated penwork underside incorporating an arcaded band of musical cherubs above two moulded scenic panel with figures, flanked by lutists, with shield bearing putti above scrolling foliage to the centre; all displayed against a cut-away & punched ‘mesh’ ground. The interior having a open till to one end and stamped embellishments to the rim with iron brackets reinforcing the corners. The facade with three panels of further faded decoration, silhouetted against a recessed mesh punched ground, on a moulded plinth base 30 in (76 cm) high, 78¾ in (200 cm) wide, 30¾ in (78 cm) deep.
