Description
A Large 18th Century Oak Westphalian Coffer or `Stollentruhe’ of rectangular form. The heavy planked lid with central strap hinge joining a quadriform escutcheon to the front with pierced iron appliqués and corner adornments, flanked by carved date reading Anno. 1743. The broad stile supports enriched with zig-zagged punch-work and bound in iron straps with studded ornamental roundel terminals. 31¾” (81 cm) high, 67¾” (172 cm) wide, 25½” (65 cm) deep.
