A Fine & Rare Late 17th/Early 18th Century Irish Dug-out Butter Barrel of slightly tapered cylindrical form with pierced lugs either side for suspension strap and a channeled recess to the underside, 11¼” (28.5 cm) high, 7” (18 cm) wide. [Similar examples have been found in peat bogs left throughout mediaeval times up to the 19th century for preserving their contents].
