A Set of Three 15th Century Slip Glazed Terracotta Tiles believed to be from the Cellars of Château de Binche. The tiles decorated with quincunx design in orange/brown slip on a yellow ochre ground, and having inscribed Collector’s label of Stephen Chauvet to the verso, 6” (15 cm) square. (The Château de Binche was located in Binche in the Belgian province of Hainaut, Wallonia; a medieval castle built by Baudouin IV in 1140 and subsequent Renaissance palace owned by Marie de Hongerie , sister of Charles Quinet).
