A Fine Quality French Empire Gilt-Bronze & Bronze Pendule au Nègre; ‘The Porter’. The piece modelled as a negro carrying a woven bundle upon his back encasing the clock movement with enamelled dial. The figure striding out with walking cane, wearing a gilded hat with clay pipe tucked into the rim and gilt trousers with a flask at his side. The D-ended plinth base adorned with decorative mounts; a monkey amidst sprays of palm tied in ribbons to the centre and parrots feeding from baskets of fruit suspended either side, raised on toupee feet, 14½” (37 cm) high, 10¼” (26 cm) wide, 3¾” (9.5 cm) deep.
