Description
A 16th/17th Century Wrought Iron Strongbox or Armada Chest bound in studded straps and painted with decorative flower heads to the facade. The hinged lid centred by a keyhole with pivoting cover, opening to reveal a sprung locking mechanism enclosed by a fretted lockplate engraved with two birds amidst lavish scrolls of undulant foliage. The front fitted with two padlock hasps flanking a faux keyhole with a decorative pierced escutcheon. The sides having wrythen swing handles. 15¼” (39 cm) high, 28” (71 cm) wide, 16” (41 cm) deep.
