The earthenware rising baluster body marbled in yellow glaze and inscription in cream slip; ‘ARTHUR WRIGHT 1900’ pierced with a coin slot and surmounted by three birds perched on a cross bar, the flat square base with yellow glazed corner finials (one A/F) and a ‘ropetwist’ border, 9¾” (25 cm) high, 4¼” (11 cm) wide. The lid-less pot of rising baluster form with slip inscription; ‘J YATES BRICK MAKERS 1895’, standing on a flat square foot with serrated edge (broken corner), 4½” (11.5 cm) high. [John Yates 1861-1917 ; an English footballer who won the FA Cup with Blackburn Olympic in 1883 and played for England in 1889 was Landlord of Brickmakers Arms Turf Moor in 1901].
