Two Pieces of Calder Valley Slip-ware Pottery by John Hudson, 20th century in the 17th century style. Both decorated in white dotted brown and umber slip on a creamy/yellow ground and stamped with potter’s mark ‘H’: A posset pot with loop handles either side alternated with applied rippled ribbands and having a inscribed band beneath the slightly flared rim; ‘THE BEST IS NOT TOO GOOD FOR YOU 1680’, 5½” (14 cm) in height, 7¼” (18.5 cm) in diameter. And a large twin handled cup of cylindrical form with same inscription dated 1670 above panels of tulips and foliage incorporating initials PI and WS, 6” (15 cm) high, 8¼” (21 cm) in diameter.
