Description
A 18th Century Maritime Longcase Clock with 8 day movement by Jn Bowen Bristol. The 12 inch brass dial having a tidal time indicator in the arch with penny moon roller above a silvered chapter ring signed Jn Bowen Bristol and marked with Roman numerals counting the hours within an outer band of Arabic numerals marking 5 minute divisions. The matted centre with seconds subsidiary ring and calendar aperture flanked by decorative engraved sprays of scrolling foliage. The hood having a moulded swan-neck pediment carved with husk flower roundels to the terminals, with intricate fretted panels of scrolling foliage to the sides and turned corner columns with gilt caps. The oak lined teak trunk with a cross-banded, lip-moulded door flanked by recessed quarter columns above a moulded base on bracket feet, 89” (227 cm) in height.
