Description
Three Pieces of Treen: A Late 18th /Early 19th Century Oak Spice Cup and Cover; the cup of goblet form on a stepped circular foot with a slightly concaved underside; the tightly-fitting, stepped domed lid surmounted by a pointed mushroom finial, 10¼ ins (26 cm) tall (to top of finial). A 19th Century Oak Standing Cup, or possibly a salt, of good colour & patination; the bowl having a projecting lip below moulded top, the stem turned with a wide disc over a blade knop set on a domed circular foot with a single groove around the edge, the underside of the base slightly concave, 7½ ins (19 cm) tall. A 19th Century Oak Goblet with turned knop to base of bowl and short stem over a circular foot with moulded edge and straight sides, the underside of foot stamped ”In Memoriam HMS Eurydice”. 6 in (15 cm) tall. [Note: There were two Royal Navy ships named HMS Eurydice, the first a 24-gun post ship launched in 1781 and broken up in 1834; the second, likewise a 24-gun post ship launched in 1843, becoming a training ship in 1861 and foundering in 1878. This goblet commemorates, and possibly is made from the oak of, one of these ships].
