Description
An 18th Century Folk Art Boarded Box of long rectangular form, probably for pen & ink. The top fitted with two hinged lids; one enclosing a long compartment with a carved appliqué initialed and dated 1754 embellished with a pierced heart and having a small wooden knop handle. The other with applied ripple moulding carved with zigzagging. The sides decorated with chip carved undulating trails of stylised foliage, 2¾” (7 cm) high, 12¾” (32.5 cm) in length, 2¼” (6 cm) wide.*
