An Unusual Antique German Folk Art Box. The sliding rectangular lid carved with a folksy depiction of ‘The flight to Egypt’ above naive depictions of Adam & Eve and inscribed banners below. The front carved with a blacksmith & man with horse flanked by potted flowers, the back with Christ in cross flanked by angels with bands of inscription running along the top and base, the name Thommas Gasser 1596 to one end, and holy initials to the other. 6” (15 cm) high, 15” (38 cm) wide, 10¼” (26 cm) deep.*
