A Fine Quality Reproduction of a Kingwood Parquetry Commode by the Maîtres Ébénistes of the house of ‘Baggio’ in the French Transition style, Circa 1778. The diagonally grained kingwood & parquetry veneers embellished with gilt metal mounts; chains of bell-flowers swagged around the frieze with female face masks to the corners above sweeping foliate adornments leading down to scrolled sabots. The front fitted with a frieze drawer opening to reveal a writing slope with tooled leather insert and a recessed brass ring pull handle, above two side-opening drawers; both with hinged inner lids enclosing ‘damask’ lined compartments, and a base drawer to the swept apron. Standing on cabriole legs 30¾” (78 cm) high, 31” (80 cm) wide, 19” (48.5 cm) deep [The original piece found in the Wallace Collection].
