Description
A Small 18th Century European Folk Art Cupboard. The front richly carved with an angel head flanked by outspread feathery wings and grotesque corbels either side of the top, above a moulded panel door; the centre carved with a fish framed in borders of undulating vines and having the date 1722 to the top. The carving defined against a recessed nail punched back ground. The door fitted with a sprung iron lock with key, and flanked by a pair of carved parrots above initials T and D. The cupboard raised above a canopy base enclosed by the full length back board and plank sides. The front stiles ornamented with imbricated scale carving and having stylised foliate carved quadrant spandrels framing the front opening, 41½” (105 cm) high, 20½” (52 cm) wide, 11½” (29 cm) at the top.
