A 17th Century & Later Carved Oak & Marquetry Wainscot Chair (A/F). The tall back having an apexed top rail surmounted by an elongated S-scroll to each side and carved with a cluster of berries and leaves, above a horizontal upper panel of fruiting vine and an arcaded lower panel inlaid with an urn cascading flowers within a carved surround of scrolling vines and grapes. The down-swept arms having decorative rebates running along the tops, supported on baluster turned posts leading down to a planked seat with applied edge moulding, standing on fluted legs united by peripheral stretchers and terminating on bun feet. The back branded with initials G.R. 50½” (128.5 cm) high, 27” (69 cm) wide.
