A Fine & Unusual 17th Century Boarded Oak Desk Box enriched with carving. The apex-topped back board emblazoned with a winged face mask to the centre flanked by incised fronds of geometric leaves. The sloped lid having chip carved ends on iron butterfly hinges opening to reveal a fitted interior housing a box compartment to each end enclosed by a sliding lid gouge carved with two finger pulls. The front and sides intricately carved with petalled demi-lunes with the addition of nulling to the sides, 18½” (47 cm) high, 24” (61 cm) wide, 16” (40.5 cm) deep.
