A 19th Century Sampler by Mary Ann Varley , worked with alphabet and numbers, trees, baskets of fruit, flowers, birds and verso to the centre; ‘Short is man’s appointed time, As the blooming of a flower, Like the grass that grows a day, In his prime and his decay’. Set in a glazed wood-grained frame with gilt slip, 16” x 16½” (41 cm x 42 cm).
