A Fine 19th Century Gothic-Revival Wood Sculpture carved in the round from pine and geossoed with polychrome and gilding: The figure of Saint Barbara depicted holding a tower in one hand with martyr’s plume in the other, wearing a fine gilt crown (A/F) with long wavy tresses cascading down her back and around her shoulders. Her gilded cloak draped in deep folds over a long flowing gilt robe. The cloak with a Prussian blue lining edged with beaded trefoil embellishments. The robe trimmed with black lace bands; the hem incorporating a band of repeated initials SB. The figure measuring 48” (122 cm) in height, mounted on a faux stone pedestal with trefoil tracery arches to the canted sides, 83” (211 cm) overall height.
