A Late 16th/Early 17th Century European Boarded Oak Coffer of low, slender proportions. The warped plank lid with a patch repair to one end and iron strap hinges. The front board carved with later Gothic style ornamentation incorporating arched panels of tracery flanked by chip carved geometric roundels contained in squares, with a small diagonally crossed square to the centre below the iron lock-plate. The end boards with V-cut feet, 18½ in (47 cm) high, 48 in (122 cm) wide, 13 in (33 cm) deep. [The carving of very similar design to a Gothic chest sold by Sothebys 31st October 2007 lot 36, Ex Axel Vorvoordt].
