A Late 18th Century Italian Inlaid Commode Chest. The rectangular quarter-veneered top having canted front corners, centred by a decorative inlaid rosette roundel in a cross-banded border, with fanned quadrants to the corners. The shaped frieze drawer ornamented with a row of inlaid acanthus leaves enhanced with pyrographic details above three long drawers. Each drawer front having a central panel of burr veneer edged with twin cross-banding flanked by a pair of raised, shaped & moulded panels fitted with bronze stud handles to inlaid patera roundels. The sides having similar shaped panels. The canted corners mounted with carved pilasters incorporating protuberant male heads below leafy scrolled captitals, enhanced with punchwork. Standing on turned feet 37” (94 cm) high, 48” (122 cm) wide, 23¼” (59 cm) deep.
