Description
A Fine 17th Century Wainscot Chair richly decorated with carving. The deep arched cresting rail edged in a punch-worked strap border with coiled ends forming the lobe terminals enclosing daisy wheels, fanned foliage and seeding flowerheads. The uprights carved with undulating vine flanked by scrolling ‘ear-pieces’ The ‘flowerpotte’ back panel framed by a guilloche carved arch. The palmate carved arms sweeping down to form voluted terminals resting on baluster turned posts. The seat having a chip carved front edge above carved spandrels and baluster turned legs united by a twinned baluster front stretcher and plain side & rear stretchers, 50½ in (128 cm) high, 60 in (23.5 cm) wide, 22 in (56 cm) deep.
