A Fine Early 17th Century Flanders Oak Arcaded Panel carved with ‘The Annunciation’. The scene depicting Angel Gabriel stood upon billowing clouds before the Holy Virgin beneath the dove representing the holy spirit, framed by a carved arch adorned with winged angel heads to the spandrels and jewelwork to the pilasters. The base having a cartouche with inscription in ‘old’ Flemish: ”De Bodeschop” (modern language written as ”De Boodschap” translated as ”The Message”). The reverse bearing an old collectors label, 18” x 10¾” (46 cm x 27 cm).
