Description
A Large Early 17th Century Relief Carved & Polychrome Panel, Circa 1600, probably Spanish. The planked panel depicting St. Anne, Virgin & Child, framed in an arched surround with a dove representing the holy spirit overhead. The seated Virgin depicted barefoot wearing a long draped cloak over a flowing robe tied at the waist; her clothing enriched with gilt embellishments, holding in one hand a rose sprig, with the naked Christ child stood on her lap. St Anne in wimple and girded robe holding a lily and book. The paintwork enhanced with finely painted threads of gilding. 33” x 38½” (84 cm x 98 cm).
