Description
A Fine 19th Century French Empire Gilt Bronze Figural Mantel Clock. The 4¼” (11 cm) white convex enamel dial inscribed ‘à Paris’ with pierced gilt hands pointing to the Roman numeral hour marks. The drum case surmounted by the seated figure of a classical maiden with windswept scarf & sash, sat between a clump of reeds and and a staff of fruiting vine with a plumed helmet and pan-pipes at its foot. The clock raised on dolphin headed fountains issuing spouts of water and flanking a writhing serpent below the dial. The break-front D-ended base relief cast with an allegorical panel and adorned with bearded face mask appliqués either side, 16½” (42 cm) high.
