Description
A Fabulous James I Carved & Inlaid Oak Chest of rich colour & patination. The lid having cleated ends and inset patch repairs on iron strap hinges opening to reveal a lidded till to one end of the interior. The plain panelled back and sides in a run moulded framework. The richly carved facade having two arcaded panels inlaid with ‘flowerpotte’ marquetry and flanked by leafy palmate carving rising up the divides. The frieze incorporating small marquetry panels to each side; one with the date 1620, the other with initials EO. The base housing a long frieze drawer enriched with flower heads and lozenge motifs and centred by an iron bifoil loop handle, 34” (87 cm) high, 46” (117 cm) wide, 23¾” (60 cm) deep.
