Description
A 16th Century Italian Walnut Coffret with Renaissance revival carving. The lid on iron split pin hinges, carved with a fluer-de-lys roundel to the centre flanked by zoomorphic scrolls within a boarder of imbricated leaves and moulded chip carved edges. The front board fitted with an iron hasp and lockplate mounted to a carved central cartouche flanked by swagged drapery, with turned spindles adorning the corners. The chip-carved base rail concealing a secret bank of three drawers, above later compressed bun feet, 9” (23 cm) high, 17” (43 cm) wide, 7½” (19 cm) deep.
