A Regency Sampler by Dorothy Richards dated 1827, worked with verse in black thread and coloured landscape depicting a stately house with peacock, shepherdess and sheep grazing to the fore amongst trees, plants, birds and insects, framed by an undulating rosebud border and set behind glass in a birds-eye maple surround, 22” x 16½” (56 cm x 42 cm). And a small sample by Amelia Harper, Escrick Park School, 1849, worked in red with alphabet and numbers, 7½” x 6½” (19 cm x 16.5 cm).
