Description
A Continental Carved Oak Coffer in the Early 17th Century Style. The moulded rectangular lid with carved dentil banding, on iron strap hinges opening to reveal a lidded till to one end of the interior. The twin panel facade richly carved with cherub masks and drapery flanked by caryatids; the central pilaster adorned with strap-work below a face mask, and incorporating an iron lock & key, between upper and lower bands of inscription. The sides fitted with twisted swing handles. The moulded base raised on squat bun feet, 23½ in (60 cm) high, 39½ in (100 cm) wide, 20½ in (52 cm) deep.
