A Fine & Unusual 18th Century Westphalean Turner’s Chair with basket-weave seat and intricate all-over chip carving of modest proportions. The back panel depicting by a figural scene in a central roundel, surrounded by winged angels, flowers & foliage, and surmounted by a row of turned finials. The back emblazoned with daisy-wheels in guilloche bands above inscription; ‘JANCKE KAHLEN 1777’. The lower back and angled-out sides composed of turned & finial-topped spindles below egg & reel turned rails on chamfered uprights enriched with further chip carving and united by stick stretchers, 37½” (95 cm) high, 25” (64 cm) wide, 16” (41 cm) seat height.
