A Rare Napoleonic Prisoner of War Memento Mori. The piece carved from wood and bone in the form of a cocoon-like coffin with a hooded top revealing a bone skull above a scrolled label inscribed ‘MEMENTO MORI’ . The back carved with an eagle’s head, phallus and skull above inscription ‘LA MAL MAISON, LE 8 AOUT 1807’, 5½” (14 cm) in length.
