The dished circular plaque having a canted rectangular panel intricately painted with a copy of the 16th century Fresco of ‘The School of Athens’ by Raphael, signed A. Beer Pinx Rom. with a gilded title label inscribed ‘DIE SCHULE VON ATHEN Raphael Rom’. The pictorial panel surrounded by elaborate, richly gilded embellishments, 23¾” (60 cm) in diameter. Set in a swept gilt frame 27¼” (69 cm) in diameter.
