A Rare Mid 17th Century Engine-turned Lignum Vitae Tankard, English, Circa 1650. The hinged lid surmounted by an acorn finial raised on a fluted boss centring a fine turned rosette of concentric petals radiating out to an octagonal border band. The scroll handle enriched with carving and adorned with a small rosette boss; the thumb-piece in the form of a pair of diverging horns. The cylindrical body enriched with a faceted frieze band above a basket weave base band, standing on three fluted bun feet, 6” (15 cm) in height, 5” (12.5 cm) in diameter.
