A Fine 19th Century Turned & Carved Oak Tobacco Jar. The bulbous sides carved with two opposing masks of the 'Green Man' framed with fruiting vines, and two opposing Gothic scroll-edged cartouches, one vacant, the other carved with the letter 'T', all against a stippled background and over a spreading circular base. The tightly-fitting pull-off domed lid carved with petals and centred by a jester's head knop turned and carved integrally with the lid. 5 ¼ ins (13.5 cm) diameter (in middle), 8 ½ ins (21 cm) high (to top knop).
