The square padded lid covered in crimson silk appliquéd with an metallic silver crest to the centre and bordered in undulating gold stems of embroidered coloured silk flowers, edged with gilt braid. The sides clad in crimson velvet, with a gilt escutcheon to the front (no key) 5 in (13 cm) high, 20 in (51 cm) square.
