The rectangular chest clad in iron bands with large flattened studs and traces of residual paintwork decorated with flowers and foliage on a black ground. The sides fitted with swing carrying handles. The lid centred by a flap concealing a keyhole (lacking key) with an imposing lock mechanism to the interior lid, 16 ins (40 cms) high, 29½ ins (75 cms) wide, 16½ ins (42 cms) deep.
