    A Rare Late 17th Century Wrotham Pottery Slipware Puzzle Tyg (A/F). The bucket shaped vessel having four double loop handles (one missing) surmounted by spouts. The sides decorated in yellow slip with the date 1696 above maker's initials I.E., owner's initials WEM above an armorial medallion, fleur-de-lis and animal forms interspersed with dot and dash motifs. 7 ins (18 cms) in height. [From The Sainsbury Collection, accompanied by a typed letter from R.J. Sainsbury to Messrs Sotheby & Co. 24 & 25 New Bond Street, dated 4th Feb 1955].
