Description
Four 19th Century Reliquaries: An unusual turned boxwood and bone monstrance encasing a tiny crucifix on a woven gold thread ground with label Vera Crux, the border adorned with scrolled gilt paper and beads, 3¾” (9.5 cm) high. An oval tablet with fragment of relief carved bone flanked by inscribed paper banners ‘la relique’ to one, the other indecipherable amidst decorative paper scrollwork and flowerheads with a small embroidered roundel to the top stitched with a cross above two hearts 2” (5 cm) high, mounted on linen boards within a glazed frame 7¾” x 6¾” (20 cm x 17 cm). A glazed roundel mounted with tiny religious fragments and labeled with inscribed paper banners, within a round turned wooden frame; the back with red wax seal, 4” (10.5 cm) in diameter. And a small silk pouch embroidered in metallic thread with flowers and foliage and inset with a glazed panel depicting Mary & Jesus, 2” (5 cm) in height.,
