Description
A Pair of Late 19th Century Venetian Carved, Painted & Gilded Figural Torchères in the form of Blackamore Gondoliers depicted carrying an oar in one arm and holding aloft a gilt cornucopia torch in the other. Each figure standing on the upswept prow of a gondola elevated upon a simulated porphyry pedestal ornamented with a garland swagged between lion masks and terminating on an ebonised and gilded plinth base. The figures wearing ornate costumes richly decorated with painted, gilded and punched embellishments. 74½” (189 cm) in height.
